Every generation asks the same question.

Can a villain change?

The Archives have spent centuries documenting heroes who lost their courage, kings who abandoned their kingdoms, and monsters who chose mercy over violence.

The answer has always been the same.

Yes.

The more troubling question is one we have only recently begun asking.

Can a hero become the villain?

Recent anomalies suggest the answer is also yes.

Stories were never meant to be prisons.

Heroes were given noble hearts.

Villains were given impossible choices.

The lines separating them were always thinner than readers believed.

Now those lines are disappearing entirely.

A queen has refused her crown.

A prince has protected his greatest enemy.

A monster has mourned those sent to kill him.

Meanwhile...

A hero has burned an innocent village.

Another willingly accepted a crown soaked in blood.

The Story Loom no longer seems interested in assigning roles.

Perhaps it never was.

Perhaps stories have always belonged to those willing to choose them.

If that is true...

Then perhaps villains are not born.

Nor are heroes.

Perhaps they are simply written.

And rewritten.
